Scouts is for those age approx. 10 and a half to 14. We meet on a Tuesday 19:00 to 20:30. You can find out more about in the Parent’s guide to Scouting.
All sections meet at the Scout hut behind St Francis Church, Hollow Way, Oxford.
A personal information form must be completed immediately and given to the leader on the first evening so that we have essential information regarding your son/daughter. If any information changes, please notify us so that their record can be amended. A copy will be attached to the first email you receive.
Scout sessions in the hall start every week at 19:00 and finish at 20:30 (Unless otherwise indicated).
The meeting starts promptly at 19:00 to allow maximum time for your young people to enjoy the programme as there is so much to do in so little time!
When it comes time to pick up your young person please wait just outside the Hut. Please pick up your child promptly at 20.30, as most of the time the adult leaders have other personal commitments.
If you are not collecting your child at the end of a Scout night (i.e. they are being picked up by another parent), we would be grateful if you could confirm this with the section leader so that we know that this is the case.
The uniform will be needed for investiture (at 37th Oxford we do not insist on the Scout trousers just the top).
Scouts – Dark turquoise shirt, navy trousers and scout association belt.
You can order the Uniform from Amazon, the Scout Shop or Sheffield Scout and Guide Shop.
Once your young person has been with us for a little while (normally around 6 weeks) and you have finished the Getting Started Process they will then take their Scout Promise and become an invested member of the Troop. Parents will be notified of when this will take place.
In advance of investiture, you will need to pay £5 to the Scout Group to cover the cost of the neckerchief and all badges. Positions of badges are shown on the section notice boards.
In advance of the investiture, we chat to Scouts about what the promise and law mean. Scouts should consider whether they are happy with the standard promise or would like to use an alternative version. If yes, you'll need to let us know ahead of the evening. Find out more about the Scout Promise.
Scout subs are £36.00 per term (three terms per year). Subs go towards vital services such as insurance and safeguarding support alongside our other running/resources costs. The reason for us doing so is that we have to pay an annual fee per Scout to the Scout Association and it means that we don't need to worry about collecting the subs at the start of each meeting. We can take subs half termly or in other installments – please let the leader know if you would like to discuss other options.
Payments can be made via direct debit on our online payment system – an invitation will be sent to you to set this up - but we also accept cash or cheque if this is more convenient (cheques to 37th Oxford Scout Group. If you are eligible for Gift Aid, we’d be very grateful if you could also complete a form for this. We send the request for a subs payment after two weeks of attending. If they have joined partway through the term, subs will be calculated accordingly for the first term.
If at any time your son/daughter decides to leave please let us know so that we can offer their place to someone else.
We also ask you to let us know if they are not able to attend Scouts due to another commitment/illness so that we are not expecting them to attend and to help with our planning.
Keeping everyone safe is fundamental to what we do, it's the one area which we will never compromise on. We have risk assessments in place for all our activities in Scouting.
